40 years Styropan
2022 has a special place for us as it marks 40 years since the founding of our company.
An anniversary of an exciting journey, during which we remained true to our vision, values and ideals in a context of respect for employees, partners, customers, suppliers, the local community and the environment.
Our main goals over time are the production of high quality products, our consistency towards the needs of our customers and the cultivation of a cooperative and family atmosphere within the company.
Through this brief tribute to our route we want to describe to you the steps we took, the important milestones of our evolution and to share some nostalgic memories. It is a brief historical review from 1982 until today.
We owe our duration in time primarily to all of you who trust us all these years. Thank you and we assure you that we will move forward together for the next many decades.
Τhe company was established in 1982, in Thessaloniki by Mr. Ioannis Katsaounidis, with the main activity of manufacturing expanded polystyrene insulating products Styropan EPS.
Utilizing his pre-existing experience as a co-founder in another company in the industry, with a passion for creation, with an inexhaustible appetite for work and with the vision of improving the quality of life through the energy shielding of the greek building potential, Styropan's project begins in the winter of 1982.
Within a decade, Styropan manages to play a leading role in the field of insulation in the greek market and its brand name has been associated with terms such as "reliable and quality insulation materials" and "insulation with white expanded polystyrene-EPS".
The first customers from abroad are coming soon as in the early 1990s and mainly from 1994 onwards, Styropan's first strategic partnerships with customers from neighboring countries such as Bulgaria, Albania and FYROM began.
The new millennium requires products and processes that have the least possible environmental impact, that offer ecological thermal insulation solutions with up to 20% better thermal insulation performance compared to conventional expanded polystyrene materials and other insulation materials.
Styropan is a leading company in these new trends and since 2003 enters a new phase as it becomes the first company in Greece to start the production of Styropan Graphite EPS expanded polystyrene graphite.
2009 is a milestone year for Styropan.
Having as a main priority to be able to cover all the needs of the insulation market with a wide range of products, Styropan adds next to the existing production facilities the new privately owned state-of-the-art extruded polystyrene production unit Styropan XPS, with an area of 5000 sq.m
Styropan produces 7 types of Styropan XPS thermal insulation boards, which differ in their surface (smooth, "shaved" -with lines), in their dimensions, the configuration with or without edges and their proposed applications. Styropan also produces composite plasterboard panels with glued extruded polystyrene (Styropan XPS composite panels).
This competitive advantage obtained by the production of extruded polystyrene is capitalized in the following years as Styropan manages to acquire a significant share of the domestic market and strengthens its extroversion.
The extruded polystyrene Styropan XPS is the leading product in terms of the company's development in foreign countries' markets. Styropan's international partner network will grow significantly in the coming years with numerous strategic partnerships in 18 countries in 2017.
The 40th anniversary and 2022 find Styropan on a path of continuous growth. A large storage unit has been added to its facilities to meet the growing needs of stocks.
The company produces polystyrene thermal insulation boards, polystyrene packaging boxes & markets decoration products.
The company now has 43 employees and a production capacity of more than 1000 cubic meters per day.
Styropan develops and implements a Quality Management System (QMS) according to the ISO 9001: 2015 standard, an Environmental Management system certified according to the ISO 14001: 2015 standard.
Styropan now emphasizes on continuous investment in research and development (R&D) for new innovative products. It has modernized its mechanical equipment with the addition of complex polystyrene cutting-packaging-recycling machines. The turnover for the previous year closed at very satisfactory levels, sealing a continuous upward trend with the increase of turnover by 235% in the last 5 years.
